Brendan Cournane is Of Counsel in Pugh, Jones & Johnson's Public Finance Practice Group. Brendan has over 40 years of experience in public finance, in both the private and public sectors. Prior to joining the Firm, Brendan served as in-house counsel to the City of Chicago, Chicago Public Schools and as General Counsel to the Illinois Finance Authority. He has also been a partner at public finance firms in Illinois and Arizona. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) and has served as a frequent panelist at NABL’s Bond Attorneys' Workshop and Fundamentals of Municipal Bond Law Seminar.
Brendan has served as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, disclosure counsel, trustee’s counsel and issuer's counsel on tax-exempt and taxable bond issues for numerous state agencies and units of local government in Illinois and Arizona. He has successfully closed tax-exempt and taxable bond issues in over 30 states. Representations by Brendan have included issues of general obligation, limited tax, revenue and alternate revenue source bonds, and conduit issues for industrial development projects, multi-family housing, single-family housing, universities, hospitals and other 501(c)(3) entities. He has extensive familiarity with multi-modal and auction rate financings, advance and current refundings, re-issuances of tax-exempt bonds, multi-modal interest mode conversions and substitutions of credit facilities, trustees and remarketing agents.
